Virgil Van Dijk has revealed that he’s spoken to Dutch compatriot Gini Wijnaldum about Jurgen Klopp and described Liverpool as ‘a beautiful club’.

News emerged on Monday evening that Van Dijk has told Liverpool they are his preferred destination and a deal is edging closer.

Speaking at a Sony event ahead of the Champions League final, the Southampton centre back revealed his feelings about the Reds to Alex Rea from Sport 360.

Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum, who’s hugely important goal against Middlesbrough on the final day of the season sent Liverpool soaring back in to the Champions League, will be hoping Liverpool are able to get a deal for his fellow Dutch compatriot completed.

Liverpool are prepared to offer Van Dijk £200,000 a week but the transfer fee could be a stumbling block, with the defender’s existing contract still valid for another five years. It is thought that Southampton want up to £60m for the former Celtic man, who arrived from Scotland for just £13m.
