Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol says he hopes to see Alberto Moreno join Arsenal this summer while appearing on ESPN.

Moreno will leave Liverpool at the end of June after a five-year stint at the club following his £12million move from Sevilla in 2014.

The left-back spent almost all of the 2018/19 season on the bench after falling behind Andy Robertson in the pecking order, and as such has been eager to leave the club for a while.

And Nicol joked that he’d like to see the Spaniard make the switch to Arsenal in this transfer window.

When asked if Moreno could join former manager Unai Emery in London, he said: “As a Liverpool fan, I hope so!”

“Quite honestly, Moreno can’t defend and the whole reason Liverpool brought in Robertson is so they could have someone who can actually defend.

“(Emery) must know Moreno can’t defend. Is he any better defensively than (Nacho) Monreal? No, he’s not.”
