Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

The Spanish midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield earlier in the season when his development at Madrid appeared to stall under Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.

However, with Zinedine Zidane back at the helm, it appears the 23-year-old is going nowhere.

“I have spoken to him and told him that he will be fundamental to the team,” Zidane said recently.

“And I want him here with us.”

Liverpool may now have to turn their attentions elsewhere as they look to bolster their creative options ahead of next season.
