Liverpool’s interest in Timo Werner has abruptly increased in the last two weeks, according to reports.

The RB Leipzig striker has been on the Reds’ radar for quite some time, with multiple outlets suggesting that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the German forward.

And now, football consultant Ian McGarry has added fuel to the fire by claiming that interest from Anfield has taken an upward turn in the last fortnight.

“I think it’s slightly conclusive of what an incredible season Liverpool have had, where they shared the Golden Boot with two of their players, [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in terms of goals scored in the Premier League,” McGarry said.

“But I still believe the glaring deficiency in this Liverpool team is an out-and-out striker who scores 20-plus goals in a season.

“Clearly if they had that they would have won the Premier League this season, because they would have outscored and outpointed Manchester City.

“We mentioned a few weeks ago on the podcast that they have an interest in Timo Werner at RB Leipzig and that interest has increased I’m led to believe in the last two weeks.”
