Liverpool’s U23s and U18s both began their respective Premier League campaign’s with positive results, whilst a former youth player made an instant impact with the first-team in the Champions League.

Elsewhere, there was a goal for a Liverpool loanee and an exciting winger is loaned out to a Championship side. Here’s this week’s round-up:

Trent Alexander-Arnold continued his remarkable rise to start with a goal on his European debut as Liverpool beat Hoffenheim 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League play-off.

The full-back, 18, scored a spectacular free-kick to open the scoring and carries on his progression as a footballer, with the youngster only making his U18s debut just 18 months ago.

Since then, Alexander-Arnold has gone to play 14 times for Jurgen Klopp’s side, one more appearance than for the U23s.

Sheyi Ojo has joined Championship side Fulham on a season-long loan. The winger, 20, has made 13 appearances for the first-team, scoring once and making four assists.

Ojo has previously had loan spells with Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and moves to Slavisa Jokanovic’s side for the duration of the 2017/18 campaign. He will wear the number 19 shirt.

Elsewhere, Paulo Alves scored twice but Liverpool U23s suffered a 4-2 defeat to Danish Premier League side FC Nordsjaelland on Tuesday.

The Portuguese playmaker netted a brace, before the game was postponed due to thunder and lightning, and will return to action on 20 August when they host Sunderland.

Neil Critchley’s side began their 2017/18 Premier League 2 campaign with a 2-0 victory at Swansea on Friday evening.

Danny Ings scored his first goal on his competitive return from a long-term injury, whilst Yan Dhanda also got on the scoresheet as the young Reds started off their season with a victory.

Liverpool U23s: Grabara, Whelan, Hart, Phillips, Jones, J Williams, Virtue, Kane, Ings (Alves, 46), Dhanda, Brewster (Gomes, 77).

Liam Coyle grabbed his first goal of the season as Steven Gerrard’s U18s began their season with a 1-1 draw at Derby County on Friday afternoon.

Coyle put his side ahead, but the young Reds were fortunate to come away with a point, and had to thank goalkeeper Danny Atherton as his penalty save sealed a point.

Liverpool U18s: Atherton, Hunter, Lewis, Williams, Glennon, Coyle, Sharif, Tagseth, McAuley, Jones, Millar.

Away from Kirkby, and young striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored on his competitive debut for Belgian Pro-League side Royal Excel Mouscron in their 2-0 victory over Lokeren.

The Nigerian, 20, will be playing his football in Europe after joining on a season-long loan earlier this month.
