Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp spoke to Sky Sports upon his arrival in Hong Kong on Monday and has been outlining the club’s plans for the week ahead.
The Reds take on Crystal Palace on Wednesday in the first match of the Premier League Asia Trophy, with their second game scheduled to take place on Saturday against either Leicester City or West Bromwich Albion.
Klopp has previously claimed that he is unsure how much work Liverpool will be able to get through, with a lot depending on the conditions.
“It was a long flight, it was comfortable, the weather is not too good here honestly! But we are not here to enjoy the weather.”
“We are here to train. In this moment I feel quite strange, we left England at 3am and I have no idea what the time is here!”
“We will see how we adapt to everything. We have a lot of things to do, appearances, but that’s not too bad as it keeps us awake.”
The Reds will take part in their first training session in Hong Kong at 3pm BST on Monday, which will be 10pm in Hong Kong. Klopp says they will have their own timezone and should have no trouble adapting.
“We need to try and stay awake today, we will try to train two times everyday or train & play. We need to sleep in the right moment.”
“Its pre-season, we have set a good base in Liverpool & now the main target is to not lose any power over here, & try to gain some.”
Klopp was also keen to stress that this trip is not about finalising plans for the new season, but more about progress with fitness.
“It’s not about finalising this or that, I want to see what we can do in training. It’s all about preparing for the season.”
“We know we don’t have that much time anymore. In 3/4 weeks the really important games start. We will be prepared.”
