Jurgen Klopp believes that Virgil van Dijk has the potential to be able to play until he is 39 years old after he was named the Premier League Player of the Month for December.
The pair was recognised by the Premier League for their contributions during the festive period, with Klopp being named the Manager of the Month as Liverpool won eight games from eight and opened up a seven point gap at the top of the table going into the New Year,
Klopp firmly believes that van Dijk’s best years are ahead of him and predicts that the Dutchman will be playing until he is almost 40 years of age.
Klopp said: “Virgil – he is a centre-half so he can play to, I don’t know, 39 or so – but there is a lot to come and if he then looks back and everyone is saying he is the best centre-half in Premier League history then he did a lot of good things during his career.
“He has outstanding potential, he is a fantastic person, is physically strong, has all the technical things you need, and so many things were already good and many things he can improve.
“I don’t have to judge him now and compare him to other players in the past. What is important he is fit, which helped him a lot because he can stay on track.”
