Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Joe Gomez has sustained an ankle injury and is facing a spell on the sidelines.

Gomez was substituted in the first-half after he was caught in a challenge with Ben Mee, which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold introduced at Turf Moor.

Klopp said the following come the end of the match on Gomez: “Joe is injured and probably not only a little bit. We have to see tomorrow. It’s ankle, yes.”

It is a major blow for Klopp’s side as Gomez has been instrumental alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence for the Reds this season, and also the fact he has the ability to play right-back, as he did for 20 minutes tonight.

The defender will undergo a scan on Thursday to find out the severity of the injury.
