Liverpool Football Club have confirmed that Joe Gomez suffered a lower leg fracture during the 3-1 win over Burnley on Wednesday evening.

Fans rejoiced after the game as the Reds showed great character to come back from a goal down at Turf Moor but Jurgen Klopp will lament the injury suffered by Joe Gomez.

A statement on the official club website reads: “Gomez’s injury was further assessed by the Reds’ medical team at Melwood on Thursday.

“Initial indications suggest the 21-year-old is facing a spell of up to six weeks out of action, though this is dependent on how his treatment and rehabilitation programmes progress.”

Gomez will miss the festive period and his absence will come as a serious blow but he’ll be back by the end of January and given how he returned from his ACL injury, there’s no doubting that he will return stronger.

Klopp has the strength in depth necessary to cope with the injury but in Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip, the same quality will not be available with both defenders known to be error prone.
