Gary Neville has explained why he has a couple of friends, who are Manchester United fans, that would prefer Liverpool to win the Premier League this season instead of Manchester City.

The Reds are currently top of the Premier League table, with City seven points behind, although that margin could be shortened after Pep Guardiola’s side face Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.

Despite the rivalry between United and City, many United supporters would prefer their neighbours to win the league ahead of Liverpool, but Neville has explained not all of the supporters are thinking like that.

He said on his Sky Sports podcast: “It is going to be Liverpool or City, they are well in front. Do you want City to win back-to-back titles and begin a period of domination, which back-to-back titles can feel like?

“Or do you want Liverpool to win the title? A couple of friends of mine said a few weeks ago that they wanted Liverpool to win it.
