A report in the Independent on Sunday suggests that Liverpool want Brannagan to sign a new contract and won’t allow him to be loaned out unless he does so, but the 21-year-old wants assurances regarding his pathway to the first team.

Brannagan was loaned out to Fleetwood Town for the second half of last season and many have been surprised by Jürgen Klopp’s decision to not have him involved with the first team more often.

When Klopp first arrived, Brannagan played a number of games for the first team, but since the beginning of last season he has not had many opportunities with the senior squad.

The Independent mention that Barcelona and Real Madrid were said to be closely monitoring Brannagan’s progress as a teenager.

Brannagan only has 11 months remaining on his current contract and this report suggests that the club want him to sign a new deal before loaning him out again.

But a summer departure could be on the cards if a compromise is not reached with Stoke, Hull and Derby all said to be monitoring the 21-year-old situation at Liverpool.
