Liverpool Join The Race For Defender Simon Kjaer
According to the Express, Fenerbahçe are prepared to let star defender Simon Kjaer leave this summer.
Despite the Denmark international not pushing for move for this summer at the moment an exit has not been ruled out. Fenerbahçe will be looking to overhaul their slightly ageing squad and rebuild by buying in some new player this summer. The Yellow Canaries have attached a €12million fee to the defender, which would help towards their squad reconstruction this summer.
The 28-year-old, who is known to like playing long balls and is a threat in set pieces, has already attracted attention from a few of the top flight Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, however the Express are now reporting that Liverpool have joined the race. The Reds have been linked to sign the Dane after sending scouts to watch him.
It is suggested that the Liverpool boss has been monitoring the Fenerbahçe star for some time as he looks to add to his squad this summer. With the likely departures of Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva from the club this summer and the continuation of defensive errors in Liverpool’s game this season, Klopp will surely be looking to bolster his defence and could possibly look to add Kjaer to his squad this summer. At 28, Kjaer could bring in the experience the Merseyside club needs to cut down on defensive mistakes and compete for the Premier League title.
Despite Premier League interest, Kjaer has insisted he is not interested in moving away from Turkey. “I have no intention of leaving Turkey, Turkish football has taught me a lot”, he told Turkish outlet Fotospor. However, with the Reds set to secure Champions League football for next season, Liverpool could make an appealing offer the defender could not refuse.
